The Best Soaps For Pregnancy

Our guide to pregnancy-safe soap products

...because Mother’s Day means celebrating all mums, even expectant ones!

Mother’s Day is a celebration of motherhood, so we think the event should also include those blossoming women who are on the cusp of becoming a new mum too. But when it comes to pregnancy, it’s essential to take extra care of the products you choose as a gift or a treat, because there are a few ‘nasties’ lurking around that pregnant women should avoid exposure to. Here at The Yorkshire Soap Company, we’re regularly asked by visitors to both our high street stores and our website which of our products are suitable to use during pregnancy, so we thought we’d put together a quick guide to help you...

A selection of soaps for perfect pregnancy pampering

Many pregnant women pay special attention to the foods they eat while expecting, but the skin absorbs chemicals from the products we put on our bodies too, so skin care, lotions etc also need to be chosen with some care.

To make it a little easier for our customers, here are our top personal recommendations for delightful Yorkshire Soap Company treats that are 100% safe and sensational for any mums-to-be:

1) Yorkshire Rose – Any products in our Yorkshire Rose range are ideal for pregnant women, and the comforting floral fragrance is a definite added bonus!

2) Ylang Ylang Botanical Soap Bar – Made with pure, pregnancy-safe essential oils, this soap is very soothing and perfect for sensitive skin.

3) Bath Truffles – with the key ingredient of skin-nourishing cocoa butter, our bath truffles can help expectant mums reduce the likelihood of stretch marks.

4) Vitamin E – anything with vitamin E is suitable for pregnant women – try our hand wash and lotion set.

5) Yorkshire Lass Body Lotion – the addition of amazing almond oil in our Yorkshire Lass body lotion will help to soften the skin while helping to avoid stretch marks too.

As a general rule, the best thing to do when choosing products for pregnant women is to seek out products based on natural and organic ingredients– although there are also a few of these that we advise steering clear of during pregnancy too, such as:

- Clary Sage

- Cinnamon

- Rosemary

- Raspberry leaf

Safe soap treats for mums-to-be

If you’re looking for a Mother’s Day treat for a pregnant friend or family member, or if you’re a pregnant woman tempted to enjoy a little pampering while you still have some spare time (!), we’re happy to declare that almost every one of our handmade soaps and bath products are completely safe to use when expecting – with the exception of the 4 natural ingredients listed above.

However, while we’re always happy to help our lovely customers by sharing our passion and knowledge for our products, but we can’t speak for other brands and obviously we’re not qualified health professionals. You may want to conduct further research online so you feel fully informed, and please do play it safe and seek proper medical advice if you’re in any doubt at all.

Sensitive soaps make great sense

In addition to the products recommended above, we have a huge range of pregnancy safe soaps and other indulgences available online and in-store – but when chatting to soon-to-be mums, we always suggest opting for products specially developed for sensitive skin.

Made with love and packaged to perfection, our sensitive skin range has been formulated to be extra gentle and kind – just like our mums!

From our fresh and fruity Lemongrass, Grapefruit, Rosemary & Calendula botanical soap bar, to our soothing and relaxing Aloe Vera, Chamomile & Lavender fresh deli soap – there’s a veritable sensitive-skin soap smorgasbord to explore and enjoy!

So this year, remember that Mother’s Day isn’t just about being a mother, it’s about becoming one too – so why not treat someone special to a safe and suitable soapy treat?!
